Somatic Bodywork for
Emotional Clarity

When your body is holding what your mind alone can’t process

Somatic Bodywork is deeply comforting and relaxing massage that addresses the profound connection between our minds and bodies. Our emotions, our stress, and our trauma can all manifest as pain, tension, discomfort, or dysfunction in the body. Somatic Bodywork understands this and helps to relax your nervous system so your body can begin to heal itself. While talk therapy does the important work of processing emotions through conversation, Somatic Bodywork helps you process and release what your body is holding through hands-on techniques - specifically Shiatsu and Reiki.

Perhaps you’ve heard that “the body keeps the score”, now through Somatic Bodywork you at last have a solution to begin healing holistically. Many clients are in talk therapy and find this work complements it beautifully.Anna Brozek specializes in helping women process emotional pain and stress that is stored in the body through custom, personalized treatment plans, taking you on a unique journey of self-discovery. Using Japanese bodywork (Shiatsu and Reiki) and Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, Anna helps you access and release what words alone can’t reach - especially during major life transitions like perimenopause, divorce, career changes, empty nesting, or simply feeling stuck, exhausted, and overwhelmed.Clients often come seeking relief from physical pain and discover something deeper: clarity about what they actually need, the ability to trust themselves again, a connection to intuition, and freedom from patterns, habits, and fears that have kept them overwhelmed.

What to Expect

This work is unique and individualized for each person - clients often say “you just have to experience it to understand.” It’s part bodywork, part energy work, part insight. Each Somatic Session is 80 minutes and includes:
• Assessment using Traditional Chinese Medicine principles to identify where you’re holding stress and emotion in your body
• Hands-on Shiatsu bodywork and Reiki to release tension in your muscles, meridians, and nervous system
• Insights about the emotional patterns connected to your physical symptoms
• Practical guidance for continuing the work between sessions
Sessions are performed fully clothed on a comfortable mat. Please wear athletic clothing you can move in, pants not shorts, and bring socks. The treatment is comforting, grounding, and deeply relaxing - working at the depth that’s right for your individual body. This work is especially helpful for:
Chronic stress showing up as physical pain (shoulders, back, neck, digestive issues)
Anxiety and sleep problems that haven’t responded to other treatments
Feeling stuck in relationships, jobs, or life decisions
• Processing anger, grief, or overwhelm during life transitions
• Wanting to try meditation but feeling like your mind won’t quiet down

Many clients are also in talk therapy. Somatic Bodywork complements therapy beautifully by helping you process what your body is holding while your therapist helps you process what your mind is working through.

About Anna

I used to be the CEO of a successful software company. On paper, I had it all. In my body, I was falling apart. After health scares that I could no longer ignore, I left my career to focus on healing. That’s when I discovered what Western medicine and talk therapy had been missing: My body was holding decades of unprocessed stress, perfectionism, and emotion. I needed to release it somatically, not just understand it intellectually.I’m now a licensed massage therapist and Reiki Master, trained in Zen Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine at Zen Shiatsu Chicago.I work primarily with women who are where I was - doing everything “right” but still overwhelmed, in pain, or stuck. High-achievers who can’t quiet their minds. Women navigating perimenopause, parenting, divorce, career changes, or simply feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by life. Women who need permission to slow down and release what they’ve been carrying. Women seeking self-discovery and renewed confidence in their own innate wisdom and intuition.I understand your world because I lived it. And I can help you find relief because I found it myself - not through willpower or pushing harder, but through finally listening to what my body was trying to tell me.I’m currently accepting new clients at my Naperville office.

Frequently Asked Questions

What you seek is seeking you. - Rumi

What is Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic Bodywork is healing work that addresses emotions and stress stored in your body, not just physical tension. Unlike traditional massage that focuses primarily on muscles and physical tension, somatic bodywork addresses the profound connection between our minds and bodies. While talk therapy processes emotions through conversation, somatic bodywork helps you access and release what your body is holding through hands-on techniques - specifically I use Shiatsu and Reiki.Somatic bodywork is especially helpful when you feel stuck emotionally but can’t quite reach it through words alone. Many of my clients are in talk therapy and find this work complements it beautifully.

How is this different from regular massage?

Regular massage focuses on muscle tension and physical relaxation. Somatic Bodywork addresses the emotional patterns and stress your body is holding using Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu techniques. While you’ll experience physical relief, the deeper work is about releasing what talk therapy alone often can’t reach. Think of it as therapy for your body, not just relaxation.

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a hands-on, Japanese style of therapeutic bodywork that is rooted in Classical and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is performed fully-clothed, and my touch can range from gentle to firm depending on your preference and needs. There is some light stretching and opening of the joint spaces, similar to what you might experience in yoga. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu can also benefit your internal systems aiding in digestion, sleep, stress-relief, respiratory support, immune support and more. It is also incredibly beneficial for a wide range of emotional distresses, chronic illnesses, and chronic pain.Perhaps most importantly, Shiatsu is deeply relaxing, never painful, and a unique bodywork experience.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes relaxation and stress reduction. As a Reiki Master, I will incorporate gentle energy work into our sessions when appropriate, though my primary approach is hands-on Shiatsu bodywork. Many clients describe feeling deeply relaxed and a sense of energy moving or releasing during treatment, whether or not they are familiar with Reiki concepts.

Do you offer shorter appointments?

No, I do not. While it is possible to do Shiatsu or Reiki in a shorter session, experience has taught me that time is an essential part of processing and releasing emotions in the body, and this is the purpose of the work we are doing together. It should not be rushed.

What should I wear to my appointment?

You will be fully clothed during your entire session. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in, such as workout clothes. I recommend sweatpants or yoga pants (not shorts), and a loose fitting shirt. Please wear (or bring with) clean socks.

Do you only work with women?

Yes, experience has shown that I am most effective when working within the female experience. If you are not a woman or are outside of the binary spectrum I will happily refer you to a shiatsu therapist that may be better experienced for your specific needs.

How often should I have an appointment?

Booking two sessions each month for the first 3 months helps establish momentum and interrupt patterns in your body more consistently. After 6 sessions the frequency should be reassessed based on your progress towards your individual goals. This is a general suggestion and actual frequency will vary, based on individual goals, needs, and, of course, budget.

Where are you located?

My office is located at 475 River Bend Rd # 104 in Naperville, IL.Less than a mile from downtown Naperville and conveniently located off of Aurora Ave, there ample free parking on-site.To find my space from the parking lot, follow the sidewalk to the right of the building until you come to the rear double doors. Enter those doors, turn right down the hallway, and my office on the left, suite 104.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments can be canceled or changed with no penalty up to 48 hours before the scheduled session. If you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee and I will require a 50% non-refundable deposit on all future bookings.

Do you offer any discounts?

I want Somatic Bodywork to be available for everyone. If you cannot pay full price please contact me and we will work out an affordable price just for you.

Nervous System Reset

8 sessions over 4 weeks | Twice weekly intensiveWhen You Need This:
Your nervous system is stuck in overdrive - or shutdown. You’re stressed, exhausted, can’t sleep, or constantly on edge. You’ve tried everything but your body won’t settle. This intensive is for when you need to interrupt the pattern now.
What Happens:
Your vagus nerve - the hub of your nervous system - has been overtaxed by chronic stress. It’s lost its ability to tell your body when you’re actually safe. Through twice-weekly sessions, we’ll co-regulate your nervous system back to balance using Shiatsu, Reiki, breathwork, and vagal toning techniques.
Timing matters. Meeting twice a week interrupts your body’s stuck patterns before they can re-establish. Between sessions, you’ll practice simple tools to maintain the regulation we’re building together. What You’ll Notice:
∙ Better sleep within the first week
∙ Decreased stress and physical tension
∙ More moments of calm without even trying
∙ Your body remembering how to return to balance on its own
Investment: $1,100 ($260 savings)
This is intensive work for people ready to make a real shift. If you’re tired of just coping and ready to actually feel better, this is for you.

Softening Anxiety

8 sessions over 8 weeks | Intensive then maintenance rhythmStructure:
∙ Weeks 1-2: Twice weekly (intensive interrupt)
∙ Weeks 3-8: Weekly (integration and practice)
When You Need This:
Anxiety has become your constant companion. It’s in your chest, your shoulders, your sleepless nights. You’ve tried managing it mentally, but your body won’t listen. You need a different approach - one that works with your body, not against it.
What Happens:
Anxiety isn’t the enemy - it’s communication your body hasn’t learned to interpret yet. Through Shiatsu, Reiki, and Traditional Chinese Medicine’s 5-Seasons Framework, we’ll help your nervous system understand what the anxiety is actually trying to tell you.
The first two weeks are intensive - meeting twice weekly to interrupt your body’s anxious patterns and teach you what calm actually feels like. Then we shift to weekly sessions where you practice working with anxiety differently, softening its grip rather than fighting it.Between sessions, you’ll learn practices to shift your relationship with anxiety in real-time. This isn’t about making anxiety disappear (it won’t, and shouldn’t) - it’s about changing how it shows up and how you respond. What You’ll Notice:
∙ Anxiety becomes a signal you can work with, not something that controls you
∙ Physical symptoms (chest tightness, shallow breathing) decrease
∙ You trust your body’s wisdom instead of fighting against it
∙ Tools to soften anxiety when it arises, rather than being overwhelmed by it
After These 8 Sessions:
You’ll have a foundation for working with anxiety for life. Many clients continue with monthly maintenance sessions, but you’ll have the tools to practice on your own.
Investment: $1,100 ($260 savings)
This package is for people ready to change their relationship with anxiety, not just manage symptoms.

Honoring Grief

8 sessions over 16 weeks | Spacious, sustained supportStructure:
∙ Every other week for 4 months
∙ Take-home practices between sessions
∙ Time to integrate, process, and practice
When You Need This:
You’re grieving - maybe a death, a divorce, an ended friendship, your child leaving home, a career you left behind, or simply the life you thought you’d have. The grief comes in waves and your body is holding all of it. You need support that honors grief’s timing, not rushes it.
What Happens:
Grief isn’t meant to be cured or pushed through - it’s meant to be honored. Your body knows how to grieve, but modern life doesn’t give you permission or space to do it.
Through Shiatsu, Reiki, and Traditional Chinese Medicine’s 5-Seasons Framework, we’ll help you reconnect with your body’s wisdom about grief. You’ll learn to recognize how grief shows up in your tissues - the heaviness in your chest, the ache in your throat, the exhaustion in your bones - and practice being with it rather than fighting against it.We meet every other week because grief needs space. Between sessions, you’ll have practices to work with grief as it arises, learning to let it move through you rather than getting stuck or overwhelming you. What You’ll Notice:
∙ Grief becomes something you can be with, not something that swallows you
∙ Physical symptoms (chest tightness, fatigue, tension) ease as grief moves through
∙ You trust your body’s grieving process instead of judging it
∙ Moments of peace alongside the grief - you can hold both
This Is Long-Term Work:
Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. These 8 sessions give you 4 months of supported practice in being with grief. Many clients continue beyond this package as needed, or return during particularly difficult waves.
Investment: $1,100 ($260 savings)
This package is for people who are ready to stop fighting their grief and start honoring it.

What Clients Say

Hear it directly from the women who have experienced it.

A session with Anna is everything you didn't know you needed. Her skill and intuition are blended with her warmth and care. I felt able to open and explore my body's messaging in a gentle and comfortable way. Also, as a mental health professional, I felt glad to be able to send my own clients to Anna and she was able to help them find the parts of the pain the words could not. Do yourself the favor and experience it for yourself.
- Ivy

It was a bittersweet day for me when Anna Brozek suspended her in-person practice in Oak Park as she moved to Naperville. I couldn’t be happier today to learn she is starting a new practice, Soma Naperville, there. Will I make the drive from Chicago for treatment? Absolutely.I had the very good fortune to be recommended to Anna by my therapist. Anna treated me with shiatsu massage for over a year and quickly became a valued part of my wellness practice. I gained flexibility, mental and physical balance, and connection to self and world. Treatments were always deeply relaxing and renewing. She is thoughtful and caring, checking in before and after each session with questions to guide treatments.Anna has my trust and respect. I look so forward to working with her again.
-Vanessa

I would describe a session with Anna as a combination of massage, assisted stretching and energy healing.  During our sessions Anna helped me feel more centered, less anxious and assisted me in progressing to having more faith in the universe as a whole.  It was very helpful during a time I had a lot going on in my life that created stress and uncertainty.
- Ashley

My session with Anna definitely created a sense of greater hopefulness and expansion, which were my expressed goals.
- Lynette

Anna's global awareness of my whole body was beautiful, and her touch was just the right pressure for my body. I felt connected throughout the whole treatment and I genuinely appreciate her work.
- Amanda

Anna's touch allows me to be fully in the moment and relaxed. She is a wonderful and amazing practitioner, and I don't use "amazing" that often! Her clients will be so blessed to work with her. Anna is a great contribution to the healing world.

Welcome Friends

Hello! I am in the process of opening a new practice in Naperville which uses Somatic Massage to help women work through mental, physical, and emotional suffering. This is incredibly niche, I know, and may or may not resonate with you at all. But no problem! I do have something that is more for everyone, and I want to share it with you at a great discount. In my specialty practice, I use a type of Japanese massage called Shiatsu - it is unique and relaxing and feels amazing. I would like to invite you to experience Shiatsu with me as often as you'd like for just $50 (cash or Zelle only please) per 50-minute session. These sessions are very different from my specialized work and will be massage only, but well worth your time and money. I have created a Friends and Family calendar (link below) where you can grab any openings I have available in the next couple of weeks. Please do not share this link, but please do refer any women who may benefit from my work to www.somanaperville.com

I assume you may have a few questions - hopefully I can address them here, but feel free to reach out to me directly if needed.

FAQ

You mention working with women, but I am a man, is this Friends and Family option even available to me?
Yes! While my specialty practice is exclusive to women, Shiatsu massage is great for everyone and I have lots of experience working with men in my last practice. These sessions are Shiatsu only and not limited to women.
Am I allowed to book more than one time? Is that taking advantage of you?
Please book as often as you'd like! I truly love doing this work and if there is time in my calendar I want to fill it.
